Takeru Amano is a Japanese painter and sculptor who was born in Tokyo in 1977. The son of painter Yoshitaka Amano, he gained early exposure to the art world and in 1997 moved to New York City, where he studied engraving for several years. He began painting seriously after returning to Japan in the early 2000s, and since then his work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Paris.
Amano’s paintings are characterized by their bold colors and use of the graphic “Superflat” style popularized by Takashi Murakami. His work fuses pop art aesthetics with subjects from mythology, as demonstrated by his take on Venus, a recurring character in his oeuvre.
